Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Trivia Troops (the "Game") collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.
1. Information We Collect
When you sign in using a third-party authentication provider (Google, Facebook, or Discord), we collect certain information directly from these providers via the OAuth protocol to create and manage your account:
- Your Name / Nickname: to identify your account and display your profile within the game.
- Your Email Address: to manage your account, secure your login, and communicate important updates.
- Your Profile Picture: to display your avatar within the game interface.
- Provider-Specific Unique ID: a unique numeric or alphanumeric string provided by Google, Facebook, or Discord to securely link your social login with your Trivia Troops account.
In the Trivia Troops app you can also sign in with Sign in with Apple or Google One Tap. From either we receive only a name and an email address. With Apple you may choose to hide your email address: we then receive a private relay address that Apple forwards to you, never your real one.
2. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal basis for collecting and using your personal data depends on the context:
- Performance of a Contract: to create your account and operate the game, including multiplayer features, matchmaking and the online lobby's list of players waiting for a match.
- Legitimate Interests: to analyse game performance, fix bugs, prevent abuse, improve the player experience, and learn which of the links we share bring players to the game (see "Links we share" in section 5).
- Consent: where you opt in to optional communications, such as event-night announcements by email or phone notifications, including a "Notify me" ("Javi mi") notification when another player is waiting for a match. You can withdraw this consent at any time, using the unsubscribe link in every such email, or by switching the notifications off in your profile or signing out on that device, with no effect on your account or gameplay.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information exclusively to:
- Operate, maintain, and provide the core features of Trivia Troops.
- Enable multiplayer features, leaderboards, and matchmaking. Your display name, weekly points and head-to-head record against players you have played appear on the in-app Rankings page, and the weekly summary we post to our community Discord. The top of the weekly board also appears on our public website, trivia-troops.com, with your first name and the initial of your last name only (for example "Ana K."). You can keep your name off all three at any time with the "Hide me from the leaderboard and the lobby" switch on your profile; your points still count for the people you played.
- The online lobby. While you are searching for an online match, or have marked yourself Ready, other signed-in players searching at the same time see your display name and how long you have been waiting. They never see your email address, profile picture, rating or account ID there. The list shows only who is waiting right now. You leave it when you stop searching or when your Ready time runs out, and we keep no copy of the list. The only record is the usual game analytics: that you opened the lobby, marked yourself Ready or left it. If you switch on "Hide me from the leaderboard and the lobby" on your profile, the lobby counts you only as one of the hidden players, with no name. This applies from your next search, at most a minute after you switch it on. If other players have asked to be told when someone is waiting, the notification they receive may show your display name, unless you have switched on the hide switch.
- Communicate important service updates or respond to your support inquiries.
- Analyse game performance and fix crashes.
- Send you optional event-night announcements by email, only if you have opted in, and only until you unsubscribe.
- Send you optional play-night phone notifications, only on the devices where you switched them on, and only until you switch them off.
- Send you an optional "Notify me" ("Javi mi") phone notification when another player is waiting for an online match. This happens only if you asked for it in the lobby, and only on devices where phone notifications are on. Your request ends by itself after 20 minutes, and you can cancel it earlier in the lobby. We send at most one such notification an hour. It shows the waiting player's display name, unless that player has chosen to hide it. If phone notifications are not yet on for that device, asking for one switches them on for the device, play-night notifications included; you can switch them off in your profile.
4. Data Storage and Third-Party Services
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information with third parties. To run the game, we share data with the following trusted service providers:
- Authentication – Google OAuth. Your sign-in is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Trivia Troops' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Authentication – Facebook Login. Your sign-in is subject to Meta's Privacy Policy.
- Authentication – Discord. Your sign-in is subject to Discord's Privacy Policy.
- Authentication – Sign in with Apple. Your sign-in is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Database & Infrastructure – Supabase. Your account data is stored securely using industry-standard cloud infrastructure.
- Gameplay Analytics – first-party. We operate our own analytics. We record in-game events (such as matches played, outcomes, categories chosen, and match duration) linked to your account ID so we can understand how the game is used and improve it. We do not use Mixpanel, Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or other third-party trackers, and we do not use this data to build advertising profiles.
- Email delivery – Resend. If you opt in to event-night announcements, we use Resend (resend.com) to deliver those emails. Resend processes your email address and basic delivery metadata (such as whether a message was delivered or bounced) solely to send the emails you requested, not for your account or login emails.
- Phone notifications – your browser's push service. If you switch on play-night notifications on a device, we store that device's push address (a web address and encryption keys your browser creates) with your account ID, and send play-night notifications to it and, if you ask for one in the lobby, "Notify me" ("Javi mi") notifications. We also store your "Notify me" request (your account ID and when it ends) until it ends. They are delivered through the push service your browser uses (Google for Chrome and Android, Apple for Safari and iPhone, Mozilla for Firefox, Microsoft or Samsung for theirs), which receives only the encrypted notification and when to deliver it. Switch them off in your profile, or sign out on that device, and that device stops receiving them at once; we delete its stored push address then, or at the latest when we next try to send to it and the push service tells us it is gone.
International data transfers. Some of these providers (including Google, Meta, Discord, Apple, Mozilla and Resend) are based outside the EEA, so your data may be transferred to and processed in countries such as the United States. Where this happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
5. Cookies & Local Storage
Trivia Troops uses only essential, first-party cookies and browser storage required to run the game:
- Authentication and session cookies (via Supabase) to keep you signed in.
- Game reconnection cookies so you can rejoin a match if your connection drops.
- A local preference (in your browser's local storage) remembering whether you dismissed the "install app" prompt.
- A local preference remembering when we last asked whether you want phone notifications, so we ask at most once every two weeks.
- A service worker that only shows the play-night notifications you switched on. It stores no game assets and no data of its own.
We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies, analytics pixels, or cross-site trackers. Because these technologies are strictly necessary to provide the game you requested, no cookie consent banner is required. If we ever introduce non-essential cookies, advertising or cross-site tracking, we will ask for your consent first.
Links we share. The links we post or print (on social media, in our newsletter, on Discord or WhatsApp, or as a QR code on a flyer) carry a visit number in the page's address. When you open one, we record which link it was and when, the kind of device you use (phone, tablet or computer; the operating system and the browser, with their main version numbers; whether the game is installed) and, once you sign in, your account. This sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device, and we do not record your IP address or the page you came from. The visit number stays in the address bar and in your browser's history, like the rest of the address. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in knowing which of our links bring players to the game. You can object at any time by writing to the address in section 9, and we will delete the record of your visit (for a visit made without signing in, include the address you opened, which carries its number).
6. Children's Privacy
Trivia Troops is not intended for children under the age of 16 (or the minimum age required for data consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under this age. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under the required age, we will delete that information immediately.
7. Data Retention and Account Deletion
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the game services.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account yourself at any time: on your profile, under "Sign out", or at triviatroops.com/account/delete. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. It deletes your profile (name and picture), your ratings, ELO and badges, your match and question history, your email and notification settings and the devices that receive notifications, and your sign-in itself.
What stays: matches you played against other players stay in their history, with your side shown as "Deleted player" and without your name or any identifier of yours. If your account was banned, a record of the ban stays, so that a banned player cannot simply sign up again. Error reports, which can contain your account's identifier, expire on their own after 90 days.
If you can no longer sign in, write to us at the address in section 9 and we will delete your account and all associated data without undue delay, and at the latest within one month.
Trivia Troops uses Facebook Login and complies with Facebook's Data Deletion Policy. If you wish to delete the activities and data associated with Trivia Troops through Facebook, you can do so by following these steps:
- Go to your Facebook profile's "Settings & Privacy" > "Settings".
- Scroll down and click on "Apps and Websites".
- Find "Trivia Troops" and click "Remove".
8. Your GDPR Rights
If you are a resident of the EEA, you have the following data protection rights:
- The right to access, update, or delete the information we have on you.
- The right of rectification (if your data is inaccurate).
- The right to object to or restrict our processing of your data.
- The right to data portability (to receive a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format).
- The right to withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
- The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Croatia, this is the Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP).
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address provided below.
9. Data Controller and Contact
Trivia Troops is operated by Kipica. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, wish to exercise your data protection rights, or want to delete your data, please contact us at info@triviatroops.com.
